Large and useful estates are Volvo's speciality, and the V70, a contemporary take on the company's iconic load carrier, continues to be the main model. Although the automaker used to produce some of the largest estate cars available, other models are now able to match it in terms of sheer boot space.
When purchasing a new car, depreciation is the biggest ongoing expense; however, this Volvo performs admirably, with some models holding onto roughly half of their initial cost after three years. For drivers who drive a lot, diesel vehicles are the most cost-effective option due to their 2.0-litre model, which achieves an average fuel economy of 48 mpg.
Volvo V70 Fuel Consumption
The V70 is quite a poor performer in terms of CO2 output, although it’s no worse than other cars of this size. Average emissions are 214g/km, but there are several diesel options for those seeking the cleaner choice. The more powerful D5 diesel posts the same emissions and fuel consumption as the 2.4D, although D5 AWD models produce more CO2 thanks to the extra weight and drag of four-wheel-drive.
At 157g/km, the 2.0D is the least polluting.
Although they don't always run smoothly, Volvos generally perform well and their owners typically own their cars for a much longer period of time with few complaints. Since its launch, there have been a number of recalls due to possible issues with the fuel pump and engine ECU.
The fuel consumption of the Volvo V70 is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Volvo V70 variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Volvo V70 in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your Volvo V70 is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:
(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
