Volkswagen Up Fuel Consumption (MPG & km/L)

The Up is perfect for novice drivers or those who have a good eye for value because it combines the quality of a Volkswagen with the affordability and convenience of a city car.

Nonetheless, there is fierce competition, with capable rivals like the Fiat 500 and Hyundai i10 also ranking among the cheapest cars in the UK.

The Volkswagen Up is among the least expensive vehicles currently available to drive, regardless of engine or trim level. The Up's fuel efficiency, taxes, and insurance have all been designed to be as minimal as possible.

The lowest operating costs are found in the zero-emission, all-electric E-Up.

Volkswagen Up Fuel ConsumptionVolkswagen Up Fuel Consumption

With the exception of the Up GTI, all petrol derivatives are claimed to achieve an average fuel economy of more than 54 mpg; the most fuel-efficient model is the entry-level Up, which comes in a three-door configuration. As expected, the five-door Up GTI with 115 horsepower claims the lowest average fuel economy, at 51.4 mpg.

The entry-level Up in three-door format has the lowest CO2 award among petrol versions as well, generating only 116g/km of CO2. Of course, the electric E-Up produces no CO2.

Volkswagen Up Fuel Efficiency Figures

The fuel consumption of the Volkswagen Up is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Volkswagen Up variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Volkswagen Up in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

How To Calculate Real Fuel Consumption Of Your Volkswagen Up

The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your Volkswagen Up is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:

(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
