Subaru Outback Fuel Consumption (MPG & km/L)

Subaru's time as a top World Rally Championship team and manufacturer of some of the most reasonably priced performance automobiles is long gone. Subaru UK is now a relatively unknown company that sells cars in extremely small quantities. Despite this, models like the Outback, a tough mid-sized estate car, stand out as being enticingly unconventional in a market full of copycat SUVs.

The 2025 Subaru Outback has four-wheel drive and a single engine and gearbox option. The 2.5-litre gasoline engine lacks a hybrid system or turbocharger, which lowers operating costs and degrades performance.

In the actual world, the official combined fuel economy of 32.8 mpg is likely to be slightly over 30 mpg on a daily basis and less than 30 mpg when towing or employing all of the available performance.

The insurance categories are roughly comparable to competitors, ranging from 27 for the Limited version to 30 for the top-tier Touring.

Subaru Outback Running Costs

This is among the Outback's most significant shortcomings, and many buyers will find it to be a deterrent. It has only one engine option, and it's not a very economical one. It is rather large at 2.5 litres and does not have a turbocharger or any other hybrid technology to aid it. To help with the dilemma, we anticipate that the company will introduce a self-charging hybrid system to the Outback series in 2025.

32.8 mpg is its stated combined average. We achieved a better-than-expected average of 39.3 mpg throughout our real-world testing program, which was conducted on a mix of motorways, A-roads, and rural roads. When we refilled the indicator, it displayed a 540-mile range with this figure. However, that is the best-case scenario. However, if you're driving in town, expect to get closer to 30 mpg; if you're travelling out of town, expect it to drop even further.

Currently, a number of petrol competitors, such the Skoda Octavia and SEAT Leon, are significantly more cost-effective.

Subaru Outback Fuel Efficiency Figures

The fuel consumption of the Subaru Outback is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Subaru Outback variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Subaru Outback in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

How To Calculate Real Fuel Consumption Of Your Subaru Outback

The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your Subaru Outback is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:

(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
