For the Czech company, the Skoda Kodiaq has been a huge success. Skoda has sold over 860,000 units of this seven-seater SUV since its initial release in 2016. It has done so well because it has consistently been a competitively priced large family vehicle with either five or seven seats. It is similar to our beloved Superb Estate in many ways, including being easy to live with, having excellent space in the back, and having good road manners.
For a vehicle of this size, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq's operating costs are very good, regardless of the engine you select. We were pleased by the regular petrol model's fuel efficiency, even though it lacks the standard self-charging hybrid found in many competitors, like the Nissan X-Trail and Kia Sorento.
When you take your foot off the throttle, the engine can easily switch off thanks to mild-hybrid technology. It's among the best cars of this kind we've driven in terms of fuel economy, and on a long-distance drive, it achieved 50 mpg, which is remarkable for a big SUV with seven seats and higher than the fuel efficiency of several full hybrids of this kind that we've driven.
Skoda Kodiaq Fuel Consumption
The diesel still should be more efficient, especially on lengthy trips, as Skoda claims up to 53.2 mpg.
Skoda claims that the Kodiaq's plug-in hybrids can travel up to 71 miles on a single charge thanks to its massive 25.7kWh battery. With the car in "EV" mode and mixed driving, we were able to cover 63 miles. We believe you should be able to easily reach the stated amount when driving in a city on a daily basis.
The plug-in hybrid also has the potential benefit of being one of the few vehicles that can be charged quickly (for example, at a motorway service station), which can take less than 30 minutes. It will take a little more than two and a half hours to recharge using an 11kW charger.
When compared to other off-road vehicles, the Kodiaq is probably going to be a good investment. Strong residual values and list prices frequently undercut seven-seater competitors, which lowers financing costs.
Finance prices fluctuate frequently. However, when it comes to PCP monthly payments, the Skoda isn't the most affordable vehicle in this class overall. It's worth taking a look at the closely related SEAT Tarraco because it's a little easier to finance.
Skoda Fuel Consumption
High residuals also mean that the car will still be worth a lot when you sell it, which lowers the total amount you will have spent on it if you decide to buy it at the end of the PCP deal.
When considering the economy, the Kodiaq performs well in comparison to other options. The stated amounts for CO2 emissions and fuel economy range from:
- 1.5-liter TSI manual: 150-178 g/km, 36.2-42.8 mpg
- 1.5-liter TSI car: 158-188g/km, 34.0-40.4mpg
- 2.0-liter TSI 190 4x4: 196-213g/km, 27.3-38.9mpg
- 2.0-liter TSI 245 4x4: 198-202g/km, 31.7-32.5mpg
- 2.0-liter TDI 150 auto: 143-167 g/km, 44.1-52.3 mpg
- 2.0-liter TDI 150 auto 4x4: 146–178 g/km, 41.5–47.9 mpg
- TDI 200 auto 4x4 2.0-liter: 38.2-42.2 mpg 175-193 g/km
We tested the TDI 200 SportLine and found that it achieved between 42.6-43.6 mpg (as indicated) on longer trips and dropped to the mid-30s on shorter runs in stop-start traffic. This roughly corresponded to a 525-mile anticipated range on a full tank. In order to help save a little fuel, this engine can also let the car coast for short distances by lowering the engine revs when you depress the accelerator pedal.
On the other hand, the vRS's 2.0-liter TSI 245 engine was expected to have a 375-mile range on a full tank.
Because Skoda service and maintenance prices are typically competitive, the Kodiaq's total expenses should remain low.
Diesel engines have a 20-liter AdBlue tank capacity.
The fuel consumption of the Skoda Kodiaq is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Skoda Kodiaq variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Skoda Kodiaq in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your Skoda Kodiaq is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:
(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
