The highly anticipated Skoda Karoq is a formidable rival in the burgeoning mid-size SUV segment, taking over from the beloved Yeti. Based on the VW Tiguan of the previous generation, the Karoq has a traditional design and is loaded with features that set Skoda vehicles apart from the competition in the family car market. In 2025, a new model with technology from its VW Group counterpart should be released.
The Skoda Karoq has remarkably low operating costs despite the absence of hybrid models with extremely high fuel economy ratings on paper. This may automatically make competitors like the Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid more appealing to some buyers, but the Karoq shouldn't be written off just yet.
Skoda Karoq Fuel Consumption
The engine lineup includes two 2.0-litre TDI Evo turbodiesel variants with 116 horsepower and 150 horsepower, as well as three different turbocharged petrol units: the 110 horsepower 1.0-litre TSI Evo, the 150 horsepower 1.5-litre TSI Evo, and the 190 horsepower 2.0-litre TSI Evo.
The 1.0-litre is the best option if your top priority is having the most efficient petrol engine possible. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre model offers more power on the interstate and features active cylinder deactivation to conserve fuel while cruising. The newest technology from the Volkswagen Group, the Evo diesels, use a twin-dosing selective catalytic reduction system to reduce harmful emissions. On longer trips, TDI is still your best bet for maximum economy, though it's debatable these days whether the extra cost is worth it.
Choosing a 4x4 or DSG automatic Karoq will decrease efficiency, but not significantly in daily driving. In addition, if you choose a trim level with bigger wheels, you'll notice a drop.
The Skoda Karoq's engine range is particularly fuel-efficient due to its relatively light weight for an SUV (even the heaviest version weighs well under 1600 kg). That helps to partially offset the absence of a hybrid.
Skoda Fuel Consumption
On the WLTP combined cycle, the more potent 1.5 TSI still gets a very respectable 46 mpg, while the petrol-powered 1.0 TSI gets 48.6 mpg. When the DSG automatic gearbox is installed, the latter number actually slightly but not considerably decreases.
Of course, the fuel-efficient SUV is the 2.0-litre diesel (yes, new diesel models are still available), which can achieve almost 60 mpg when paired with a manual gearbox and over 57 mpg when paired with a DSG automatic gearbox. These numbers are all perfectly accurate for driving in the real world.
The fuel consumption of the Skoda Karoq is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Skoda Karoq variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Skoda Karoq in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your Skoda Karoq is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:
(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
