The Hyundai Kona has one of the most diverse engine lineups available today, with petrol engines, hybrids, and even fully electric versions.

Buyers must decide whether the lower running costs of more electrified versions outweigh their higher cost. For many, the most basic 1.0-litre petrol model (available in six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic) will suffice. It achieves 47.9mpg combined fuel economy and emits 134g/km of CO2.

A more powerful 1.6-litre petrol turbo is also available, along with a selection of transmissions. All petrol Konas have a modest 47-litre fuel tank. Remember that the Hybrid reduces that to 38 litres, so you'll probably be filling up more frequently, despite the increased fuel efficiency.
