The abbreviation DS has a long tradition at Citroen. It started as a type designation for the legendary limousines from the fifties and sixties.
The DS3 experienced a revival in 2010 with the sporty compact sedan version. In 2013, the three-door sedan, which is technically based on the C3, was expanded to include a convertible version with a Webasto fabric roof. In contrast to the conventional Citroen models, the DS3 is emphatically positioned as a kind of French Mini. Since 2014, the DS3 has been ranked under Citroen's new sub-brand DS Automobiles. In the meantime, he also got some facelifts with subtle visual changes, assistance systems, more connectivity and a 7-inch touchscreen. In 2016, the DS experienced a facelift with a redesigned front, better equipment including more connectivity and assistance systems. Important competitors are sporty compacts like the Mini, Alfa Romeo Mito or Audi A1. Compared to younger lifestyle small cars such as the Opel Adam or the classic Mini, the DS3 is a good deal larger and offers more space accordingly.
The fuel consumption of the Citroen DS3is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Citroen DS3variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Citroen DS3in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

Unlike with many models of the Citroen cars where the choice of engine is very limited, with the DS3 the range of engines is quite extensive. There are a total of seven different engine options to choose from, there are two diesels and five different petrol versions available. The three-cylinder petrol engines PureTech 82 and PureTech 110 are the lowest priced entry-level models. The convertible model delivers 82 bhp and the 1.2 litre three-cylinder is considerably more punchy with 130 bhp. Moving up the displacement’s we have a 1.6 litre four-cylinder which is the most powerful model and will give drivers 165 bhp. As for the diesels, there is a 1.6 litre four-cylinder with either 99 bhp and 120 bhp. All engines are also offered for the convertible.
There is a 5-speed manual transmission for the weaker versions and a 6-speed manual transmission for the more powerful engines. A 6-speed automatic is only available with the 110 hp petrol engine. With the 165 hp engine, really sporty driving performance is possible with 8.1 seconds for the sprint to 100 km/h and 218 km/h at the top, although not without an increase in fuel consumption.
The three-cylinder turbo in the 110 and 130 hp power levels achieves the best consumption values among the petrol engines with a standard consumption of 4.3 litres. The two diesel variants are even cheaper here with 3.4 and 3.6 litres according to the standard and emission values of 87 and 94 g/km CO2 in the good efficiency class A+.
Citroen DS3 Fuel Consumption
Knowing the real fuel consumption (sometimes called 'Real MPG' or 'Real km/L) of your Citroen DS3is critical because it is shows the actual fuel efficiency you are getting from the car. It shows you the true MPG or km/L you are getting from your Citroen DS3from driving in the real world, rather than the figures provided by the manufacturer. Calculating both the fuel economy of your car is as easy as 1-2-3.. Use our simple Fuel Efficiency Calculator to help easily work this out.
The 'real fuel consumption' shows you the amount of fuel your Citroen DS3is consuming to travel a fixed distance. This is normally shown as L/100km. This figure shows you the amount of fuel consumed in litres for every 100kms travelled. This is the most commonly used figure for showing the fuel consumption of a vehicle. The formula to calculate it is:
(Litres of fuel used X 100) / Kilometers travelled = L/km.
