Abarth 500 Fuel Consumption (MPG & km/L)

The car manufacturer and tuner Abarth & CSpA was founded in 1949 in Bologna, Italy. The company logo is adorned with a scorpion based on the star sign of company founder Carlo Abarth. The company has belonged to the FCA group (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) since 1971. Abarth is best known for performance-enhanced and particularly sporty versions of the Fiat 500 and the Fiat 124 Spider.

The words 'Abarth 500' make the hearts of motorsport enthusiasts beat faster. After all the Turin based tuner provides plenty of power under the hood in the 500 series. Carlo Abarth had the idea for the sports range in 1949. The motorcycle racer Carl Abarth together with his partner Armando Scagliarini, initially specialised in the construction of their own sports cars which were based on various Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari models. This was the long before the concept of the Abarth 500 was even dreamt of. The sports cars, which were only produced in small series, were provided with bodies by famous sheet metal cutters. Among others, Bertone, Giugiaro, Pininfarina, Vignale and Zagato drew for "Abarth & C.", as the company is still officially called today.

The first Abarth was a Cisitalia Abarth 204A Spyder from 1949, followed in 1951 by the second independent Abarth model, the Abarth 205A Berlinetta Vignale. But Abarth became really famous for its offshoots based on the Fiat 500 and Fiat 850. And of course through its successes in motorsport: Abarth competed as its own racing team with self-tuned athletes from Simca, Alfa Romeo and Fiat and was able to win Johann Abt and Engage Walter Röhrl as driver.

Abarth 500 Fuel Efficiency Figures

The fuel consumption of the Abarth 500 is shown below in both MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and km/L (Kilometers Per Litre). Both of these figures show you how far that particular Abarth 500 variant can travel for every gallon (4.55 litres) and every litre (1000ml) of fuel. The higher the MPG or km/L value, the more economical the car is and the cheaper it will be to run. As well as providing the combined figures, we also give you the fuel consumption you can expect from a Abarth 500 in urban / city driving conditions as well as what can be expected on the open highway / motorway.

More About The History of Abarth 500

As early as 1971, just 22 years after it was founded, Abarth sold his company. Enzo Osella took over the racing team, the naming rights and the automobile production took over the Fiat group. The large carmaker attached less importance to individual Abarth models and instead bundled the motorsport activities of Fiat and Lancia under the name Abarth Corse. Vehicles such as the SE030, the Fiat Abarth Rally or the Lancia Beta Montecarlo were developed by Abarth specifically for racing. Since the 1980s, Abarth has hardly played a role in the racing circuit, the brand increasingly positioned itself in the Fiat group as a house tuner, the responsible for the strongest variants of the series models; among other things, the sports manufacturer launched the Ritmo Abarth 125TC.

Abarth 500 Fuel Consumption

However, the name often only had to be used for a sporty equipment line and accessories were and are also sold with the Abarth logo. By the way: It was no coincidence that Carlo Abarth chose a scorpion as his brand signet - it was his zodiac sign. Today, the Abarth sub-brand advertises that it produces small power cars. The only model in the Abarth portfolio is also due to the lack of basic vehicles in the Fiat range, the 500, which comes up in various expansion stages such as "595", "595 Competizione" or "695" with a scorpion on the radiator grille. Up to 180 hp are then under the hood. The two-seater roadster Fiat 124, which was also available as an Abarth for a short time, has meanwhile been withdrawn from the range.
